On Labor Day ...

While you're busy putting away the white shoes, checking out the sales, and eating barbeque, take a moment to remember the unions and the progressives that fought for a forty hour work week, an end to child labor, a safer workplace, a minimum wage . . . and remember that the 1%, for the most part, fought these changes tooth and nail.

Happy Labor Day!

I love that political cartoon, Vicki. I firmly believe that progressives, liberals and unions are responsible for almost everything that was instrumental in creating a middle class. That the 1% has so much control now is really frightening. What I can't understand is why so many people who are middle class and even some of the poor are Republicans. That party has never done anything for them and never will. Whoa! Sorry for going on so long. Have a happy Labor Day.

A timely reminder that should reach far beyond the US. I was reading an article online yesterday, and the following sentence seemed to sum things up rather well. "The super-rich have seceded from America even as their grip on its control mechanisms has tightened."

Vicki, Happy Labor Day to you, too.

I will be working today. I will also give some time to remembering the PATCO (flight controllers union) Labor Day march from way back in the Reagan era.

Thank you, Vicki, for reminding us this Labor Day. Let's carrying that message right into November and beyond! Jim

I shall be laboring on Labor Day. At 59 I'll go to my job for the evening shift, be thankful I have a job, but also continue to climb ladders with 50# or more on my shoulders, be on my feet for about 14 hours with a half hour break, and wonder why I didn't listen to Mom and Dad and become an orthodontist. Probably would have been closer to the 1% and retired 15 years ago, and having a cocktail on a beach in Thailand!

I'm pushing for a 32 hour work week, four days a week, and at least 6 weeks of vacation/year! What? We can't afford that?

Dang. Now, where's my bottle of Motrin.........

Hope you are celebrating this Labor Day with no labor!

Alas, in these times of fewer jobs to go round (due in part to outsourcing,) employers are able to ask one employee to do the work of several ... and the employee, fearful of losing that precious job, has little choice but to comply.
