A Short Time to Stay Here

In A Short Time to Stay Here Terry Roberts brings an obscure bit of WWI history to vivid life. A tiny mountain town in North Carolina , a batch of German detainees quartered at a once-grand hotel, and the inevitable conflicts that ensue provide an intricately layered backdrop to a beautifully imagined and timeless love story. Read it for the history; read it for the setting; but, most of all, read it to make the acquaintance of these fascinating characters.
The setting is Hot Springs, NC, at the elegant Mountain Park hotel -- the same setting I used in Under the Skin. It's World War I and a group of German merchant mariners are detainees, quartered in and on the grounds of The Mountain Park. (A very civilized group as you can see from the picture below.)
Visit Terry's website to learn more about the book and how to win a two night stay at the Mountain Magnolia Inn of Hot Springs (also featured in Under the Skin.)

I wouldn't mind being detained there.

How interesting that there is another book now with the same setting as yours! I did not know that there were German prisoners of war in North Carolina during WW I.

pretty cool place...neat when you can go visit the location of a story as well...immerse yourself in it...

Oh goodie, another historical novel to drool over. Thanks for the head's up. I promise not to drool, nor will I let the cats rub their cheeks on it, which all library books seem to invite!

A perfect spot to ride out a war. I'd heard about the German prisoners in Hot Springs; now we'll have to get the book.

I remember your post about Mountain Magnolia Inn of Hot Springs.

Sounds good. People often only associate battlefield carnage with WW1.

Started reading this book today. I am enjoying reading anything I can find about the area. This is particularly fascinating. Thank you for bringing this one to our attention.
