A Room with a View

The weather on Friday convinced me not to go in search of family graves in the hinterlands of south Alabama.
I ended up, instead, having lunch in Birmingham with a friend I met in San Francisco, back last October.
And enjoying happy hour and later dinner with some of the other authors and some of the organizers of Murder in the Magic City and Murder on the Menu.

The weather is supposed to be better today when events get under way.

These pictures are from the place I stayed Thursday night. My current room offers a view of the swimming pool and a mall.

I know, I'm spoiled. And I'm here for the people -- who are terrific -- not the view.

I miss my sunrises but I thought these towers in the mist were kind of eerie.

Glad you're enjoying your trip and visting with friends, even if the view isn't so great.

Hoping the weather will clear up before you have to leave...

Being away for a while always makes you cherish home more, I think.

Have a great trip! I know it is hard to leave paradise, but it does make you realize just how lucky you are. At least that is what I always think when I leave the homestead. Have fun!

Towers in the Mist that would be a great title for a murder mystery, No? or historical murder mystery in say the highlands perhaps, castles and bagpipes?

I would love to come to one of your workshops. I think your view is o.k. I know what you mean about a great view. We have had so much snow. Yesterday, I saw a coyote walking in the nature area behind my house. If you have time, look at my blog. I had a beautiful bird visit my bird feeder the other day. I think it's a woodpecker. What do you think?

Today's conference was fun. We caravan off to Wetumpka tomorrow for more blatant self promotion. I've enjoyed meeting readers and writers and have gotten some neat ideas... more on that in time...

The hotels are definitely comfortable -- it's just the sameness.

Kristen, TOWERS IN THE MIST is a great title. Elizabeth Goudge used it for a beautiful historical novel about Oxford.

It's the people and the occasion that count in these kind of places.
I always get a bit disappointed when the expectations of a view are dashed.... like staying in a hotel next to the Grand canal in Venice... having a view of a courtyard at the back with the tourist sellers.

It was great to see you this weekend! And the picture of the towers turned out very nicely. :)

Yes, J, it IS all about the people. And they made things terrific. I'll be posting a slide show about the weekend tomorrow or the next day.

Hey, Vicki Van V -- it was so nice to spend some time with you. (Still haven't heard anything about what we were discussing...drat.)
