Oh My!

Oh. My. Goodness. Look what the young uns gave me for my birthday on Monday!
I am now, what with the Ipod that came at Christmas,  the most technologically enabled old lady in these parts.
And there was a bouquet of tulips and champagne and a dinner prepared by John and another dinner by Justin and Claui and other lovely pretties -- including some terrific ink and paper books I'll show you tomorrow.

Another birthday -- and unless I plan to live to 136, I'm pretty sure I'm well past middle age. Funny how that happens...

Many happy returns, Vicki, and welcome to the Kindle Club. Now you have all those classics to browse for free, at Project Gutenberg. And I believe the Kindle will hold up to 3500 titles!

Happy day, Vicki! May you be blessed with many more!
The tulips are lovely - a foretaste of Spring. It felt like spring was coming this weekend in the mountains, but now I'm back in NJ with 17 degrees, spring seems far away.

Enjoy the Kindle. Go to the Kindle store and look thru the free and reduced price books and stock up. Then slide that little thing in your bag when you have a doctor's appointment or any other time that waiting may occur.

Well, Happy Birthday Vicki! Looks like you made out just fine. In my opinion, being "just past" middle age is just about the most perfect age to be.

Happy Belated Birthday, Vicki. You're stylin' now! LOL

...yes, age just sneaks up, doesn't it? I was at Macy's the other day to get foundation and they tried to sell me cream for "beginning wrinkles". Not old ones, thank goodness. AND they also had a cream to tighten and reduce my chin line.

I couldn't keep a straight face and kept giggling. Lovely gifts and can't wait to see the gifts tomorrow - sounds up my alley.

Vicki! Happy Birthday!

What a perfect birthday week you're having!

Tulips and Technology - a perfect combo!

AND dinner(s)! I'd say you've been a very good girl-child/woman this year. And I can't wait to hear more about the books.

I also wanted to thank you for the post about learning the art of writing - I loved it!!!!!

Egads!!! A Kindle??!! Say it ain't so!!! Okay, I can see I'm going to have to open my mind just a crack to these newfangled digital readers . The one thing I can't understand though is how one is to enjoy reading a book if they can't sniff the pages. Well, even though you've gone over to the dark side, I wish you a very Happy Belated Birthday! :)

Happy birthday - you kept that quiet on the day! What a lot of lovely presents - I'd be pleased with all those too.

Many thanks to all for the birthday wishes! And I will do a post about the pros and cons of the Kindle after I've used it a while.

Miss Yves -- I don't think so -- it's a little piece my husband gave me and it made me think of one who is baffled by technology.

Thank you for the reminder, Martin! I've just downloaded A Princess of Mars (Edgar Rice Burroughs), an OZ book (Baum), some Wodehouse ad several other childhood favorites to my lap top -- now to get them to the Kindle.

Sam -- no Eggs Benedict but John's homemade biscuits and sausage patties and red currant jelly -- and champagne! Yum!

Brenda -- I will continue to live surrounded by real books -- never fear.

Happy Birthday Vicki! what a wonderful gift. Such pretty tulips. Great gifts.

I had to grin when I saw your present (Kindle, Nook?) because just this morning I broke down and bought myself a Nook. The geek that I am, I spent my lunch hour playing with it.

Many, Many more birthdays to you.

Happy birthday, however belated! And you are in for one heck of a Kindle addiction, I can see that already -- everyone I have ever talked to goes into an orgy of downloading free and cheap books for the first months. I approve of your choices, btw. [grin] I downloaded the 15-volume Oz omnibus, myself; miss the illustrations, though.

Gutenberg is a good source. So can Google Books be. Remember that .mobi files are compatible, too -- just download them, then hook up the Kindle via USB and shove them on over as you would to any other USB device. I shall leave it to you to find and plug into the Kindle free book notification circuit ... don't want you to cross me off your "friendship" list for being an enabler! [laughter]
