August Seen

You can hear the sound of contented munching . .

. . . as the cattle enjoy the lush salad bar of weeds and grass . . .

.

Eddie and Miss Susie Hutchins relax . . . and keep an eye on each other . . .

So much to see . . . sunflowers, red velvet okra,

So much to do . . .

. . . tomatoes and beans to pick . . .

watch a daddy-long-legs . . .
. . . and escape the sun beneath the river birches.

Hi Vicki, your photos are great, I love the cows and the cats, and your veg patch seems exotic to me, I love okra, our summers are poor weather wise, we even had to plant the courgettes (zucchini) indoors this year and they have not produced anything yet. I loved your post on research, that is the type of research I love, and your husband was lucky to be on hand to help too! Happy Weekend. Hugs, Margie.

The first week of August has been a warm one here, so I'm out early and late to get my chores done. I finished putting up tomatoes yesterday ... no more room/no more jars. My garden, which I planted early, has blessed me with overflowing goodies and for that I am very thankful!

Hey Vicki,I figure you are where I was a month ago, covered up in veggies? It's a really busy time isn't it? Your pictures are wonderful and calming. I'm just planning and planning my courtyard and hating that it will be next year before it looks and feels the way I want it to.Life is good isn't it? We are blessed!!

Thanks, Margie! It was a hot day today and I envied you your cool Irish weather. It's been a fine summer for zucchini, somewhat to my husband's dismay, and I am freezing it grated in two cup portion to make zucchini bread in the winter.

Hey, Pat -- I'm well into it -- my maters have the blight but as I always do, I cut off the blighty parts ad they go on producing. I have about forty tomato plant -- my son and daughter-out-law have a hundred and are trying to get it all into cans or the freezer.

Carol -- Your husband is a fast worker! Can't believe how much he's gotten done already. What sort of chickens are you getting?

Kaye -- You sweet thing!

What beautiful photos! I would love to be able to grow my own vegetables, especially tomatoes. Our growing season just isn't long enough though.

I loved the photos of Miss Susie Hutchins and Eddie. Gorgeous cats!

I lovet he lushness of the fullness of summer in these August images!

I have never seen an okra plant before, unbelievable, seeing how much I love okra. ;-)

Hi, Victoria -- yes, we're in a growin' place! And diligent folks (not me) extend the season on both ends with cold frames and green houses. For my part, toward the end of August I'm looking forward to frost to put the garden to and end.

Merisi --The okra plants are quite tropical in appearance. Mine are rather chewed up by bugs but I've got some better pictures which I'll post soon.
