A Lovely Day

Yesterday was a beautiful day to weed and plant and enjoy being outside without the nagging feeling that I should be with Miss Birdie.

The daffodils are at their peak, the spicy scent of viburnum wafts on the breeze, and the Kieffer pears are lacy with sharply sweet-smelling blossoms.

I wonder if any of you out there recognize this double daffodil. It's very common around here, growing in profusion around all the old homeplaces. But I don't recall seeing anything similar in the bulb catalogues. Marta?

And to cap the lovely day, we had dinner at our friends' house -- which made me happy as I enjoy their company and I didn't have to cook -- and Carolina won and will be in the finals on Monday -- which made John and the other fans very happy indeed.

Spring with all its beauty just makes you feel good doesn't it?
Your flowers are beautiful!
Are you expecting a freeze? We may have to cover up things here if it does what they predict!

Yep, unfortunately it looks as if the weather is going to turn very nasty indeed.

Miss Birdie won't mind that you spent your day out in the garden! But, darn, we were rooting in absentia for Nova to pummel UNCH. Maybe they'll get punched out in the finals. But we won't be watching then, either.
We are worried about our blueberries. We'll cover them and hope for the best.

Those double daffodils are really unusual! I've never seen any like that. Just the single ones up here in central Ohio, my little neck of the woods.

Spring is still in the process of creeping up the mountain here, except for little subtle signs here and there. Last night our low was 19 degrees.

Those daffodils are beautiful! I've never seen any like them though, sorry I'm no help...

It is cold here, too. I was all set to cut saw briers and make an effort to clear a space for a "mini" garden, but instead, I've fired up my little soapstone stove and retreated indoors with my stack of seed catalogs. I did call the guy that repairs my rider-mower every year, and he is going to try to wire it together for one more year. (I garden with a rider-mower. That is tricky.)

As the old folks say around here, 'They're giving snow for tonight.' I could weep for all the beauty that will probably be zapped. Like Kay, I'll cove what I can.

Those double daffodils -- come fall I can dig some bulbs and share if any of you all are interested.

Hey there, Gary -- yep, looks like time for a spell of indoor gardening by the fire. But this too shall pass.

I'm not sure what the double yellow daffodils are either, but they are an 'old timer' favorite around here. I have a few, given to me by my dear neighbor who has since passed away. We are in the midst of the cold spell here, and it ain't pretty. Weep is how I feel too.
