I Hab a Very Bad Code in the Head

. . . and my head feels stuffed with some wool-like substance. I spent Tuesday reading and sleeping and drinking liquids and sniffling and snarfling and coughing and hacking. I cannot taste anything, even leftover pizza.

A sad state of affairs -- I hope to be back tomorrow to tell you about my reading.

The picture is a yellow trillium -- they grow wild here in abundance. They're not as pretty or showy as some of the others but, in their understated way, they seem to me the essence of Spring.

I wish you a speedy recovery from that nasty head cold!

So sorry about your cold. I hope you feel better quickly. Let me know if you would like our family's recipe for "Cold-Killer Soup" aka Mexican Tomato.

Thanks, Carol and Karen-- and yes, I'd love that recipe -- just stick it here in the comments as others might like it too!

Hope you feel better real soon, Vicki. Head colds suck, quite frankly.

Looking forward to KarenB's soup recipe. Will add it to my arsenal. I love Hot and Sour soup when I have a head cold. If it's made right, really helps open up the sinuses.

First of all, my comiserations on that cold. That something so non-life threatening can make one feel so bad! Plenty of herbal tea with lemon and honey, sleep and Vitamin C are my remedies. I have so enjoyed reading your posts about the Easter party and the room decked with quilts! I also have one of my quilts hanging from the rails in the little open loft room above my study. I ordered your book on community quilts on Amazon.com (the mystery stories can wait till later!).
PS Pleased you also like George Herbert and I love John Donne for both his naughty love poems and his deeply felt poems of bold faith. Death, be not proud!

Sorry to hear you have the snuffs, Vicki. Drink lots of hot tea with honey and lemon. Oh, and sleep!

I hope you feel better soon, Vicki. I usually use the hot tea loaded with lemon and honey remedy with an added tablespoon of bourbon. I find that if I add enough bourbon, I don't even care that I have a cold. ;)

I think those trilliums are beautiful! We don't have any kind of trilliums at all out here; too dry, I guess. :(

Susan -- hot and sour soup sounds good. I've been making do with chicken broth laced with powdered ginger and Sriracha hot sauce.

Eleanor -- I do the hot tea and honey and lemon also. Likewise Vitamin C and likewise sleep.

I hope you like the Community Quilts book -- I'm very proud of it -- and a lot of the photos of the quilts were taken at our farm.

Willow -- oh yes, sleep. It's easy to do on a chilly grey day like we're having.

Victoria -- I prefer rum to bourbon but as I can't taste, the point is moot. It does, as you say, help you not to mind the cold so much. And to sleep.

As of right now, Wednesday night, I'm feeling better though far from good. Still no sense of taste but I'm beginning to think I may live.

Soup recipe - and sorry it took until today -

1 small can tomato juice (6 oz)
1 small can spicy V-8 (6 oz)
juice of 1/2 lime
2 cups chicken stock (or one can if you don't make your own)
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 or more tablespoons chopped cilantro

Combine all except cilantro in a saucepan and simmer 5 minutes. Stir in cilantro. Enjoy! My husband adds more hot pepper because he likes it really spicy.

This sounds good even without the cold. Thanks, Karen!

I just ran across this post and it reminded me of something funny so I just had to share....when my daughter was expecting her second child and before we knew it, we were visiting one day and her 5 yr old said, "Bobbie is gonna have a baby," I said, "Who on earth is Bobbie?" My granddaughter had a bad cold and my daughter turned to me and said, "Good grief Mama, I'm pregnant!"
