The Future of the GOP

As every day brings more confirmation of the Felon in Chief's mental and physical decline, accompanied by outrageous flouting of the norms of decent behavior and a ramping up of his egregious self-dealing, I find myself wondering how long the GOP can survive as a party, tied to this abominable, corrupt facsimile of a human being.

Are there any members of this once respected party who are meeting secretly to discuss removing this demented would-be dictator? It seems to me that such a step would restore to the GOP a great deal of the prestige they have squandered in bowing down to this golden monster.

Or is this wishful thinking?

Oh, for the midterms!

The latest NPR/Marist poll has Democrats 14 points ahead on the question of who people will vote for in the midterms,

Good question. I continue to shake my head at the complete capitulation of the party. Or are they not capitulating? Is this what they really want?

Too much time between now and midterms. People forget, and too many forget too quickly. The Epstein affair will help keep the fire stoked. So will ICE and its hooligans. So will the new cost of necessities such as food and health care, now that corporations know how much people are prepared to pay. This whole mess is not over with by a long shot.

Even if #4547 leaves the stage, be it through ill health or legal consequences, the Eye-liner VP is next; and, behind him, until we retake the House, comes Miserable Mike. Supporting them there remains a now thoroughly corrupt administration. And, behind it all, those who are pulling the strings: the 2025 folks to which a too large section of the GOP (and SCOTUS) are ideologically in thrall.

Celebrate now. Tomorrow, re-group. And start thinking seriously about what you want your country to be, and to become. Plan how, over the years, we can create an even greater America, not by merely patching what is but by building what will be.
