A Most Private Person

My brother died yesterday. He had been in declining health due to cancer for some time and had refused to pursue treatment. He was such a private person that I really don't want to say more, except that this is one of those those moments when, uncomfortable as it is to say about someone you love, death was a mercy.

He was blessed with a close friend who did all she could for him, difficult though that became. I am so thankful for her love and caring. -- and for his son, who came from California to Alabama to be with him at the end.

Into the light, Skip...

Dear Vicki

My sympathies to you and your family; so very sorry for the loss of your brother. He was so very brave to find his own path as the disease progressed.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Making decisions as to treatment or not is harder sometimes on those around one...I've been through that at least 3 times in my family. But the circle of life continues. May his being and spirit be remembered in your hearts.

Although I don't have siblings, Sue does, and we lost her brother a few years ago, and it was hard. So I wish you comfort in your memories in this difficult time.

I have to admire Skip for making the decision not to pursue treatment. I think it is brave and sometimes the right decision.

His picture reminds me of your dad. May only good memories remain with you. For me he is still Cousin Skipper from high school.
