Lily + Ali

When our great niece Lily visited a few weeks ago, she and Ali pretty much fell in love. He slept on the bed  with her and, now that she's gone, he comes up most days for a quick check of the upstairs guestroom, just to see if Lily might have come back.

A few days ago we received a really  sweet thank you note from Lily -- and a  handmade placemat for Ali.

He loves it -- but what he really wants is for Lily to come back. . .

When I was a little girl, I had those sorts of friendships with dogs that were not mine (I wasn't allowed a dog at that age). Though this one looks special and intense, for both little girl and big dog. How sweet!

Isn't it great when 2 individuals fall in love, even across species!

This is such a sweet story of your dog. He really loved her and was so glad to be around her. Our border collie loves our three neighbor girls and when they come to the fence he lays down on the ground for them to pet him as if he is bowing to them. One of the girls when young was trying to offer him her pacifier. Dogs really do know they are dealing with a young person. His taking the submissive position only takes place with those girls.

That is so sweet. Hopefully she will get to come back and keep that bond strong.

Maybe some of the bond is being about the same size, so neither feels intimidated and more like kindred spirits. Really a nice relationship.

I just love the way dogs bond with certain youngsters. It's a blessing all around.

I was told today was National Dog Day (not just by our dog) . What a prefect post. Loving little girl, loving dog, and beautiful artwork!!!

It is always nice to read about such a friendship. I hope this friendship will have a follow up.

Lovely exchange of friendship between dog and child. Somehow it should be so that all young folks should have a dog love experience sometime in their life. -- barbara

I hope she will. I have a nice photo of my granddaughter draped around the neck of a big, soft dog on holiday. She fell in love too.

Vicki, as someone has already said, Lily + Ali made a super sweet tribute to National Dog Day.

I could see Lily + Ali being carved into a tree or a bench somewhere around your place, so that Lily could always be reminded of a particularly wonderful summer.
