- I'm the author of The Elizabeth Goodweather Appalachian Mysteries from Bantam Dell. The series includes SIGNS IN THE BLOOD (LA MONTAGNE DES SECRETS in France), ART'S BLOOD, (LE SECRET DES APPALACHES in France,) OLD WOUNDS,IN A DARK SEASON (Anthony Nominee, Best PBO), and UNDER THE SKIN. There's also THE DAY OF SMALL THINGS (a spinoff/standalone)chronicling the unexpected life story of Miss Birdie, one of Elizabeth's neighbors. I came to this weird business late (my first novel was published in 2005) and am still trying to figure it out. As my novels are set in a place much like my real life home, I thought I'd use this blog to share pictures of our farm and county. I've been blogging for over five years now, on an almost daily basis, and the topics have ranged from writing, chickens, food, books, quilts, flora and fauna of all sorts, to the occasional tiny rant. I know only to well the joy of getting back outside to nature again. So glad you're knee is getting much better. Love that first photo. I grinned about the way you traversed the stairs, done that too! But it worked that's only that matters!

That had to be the best physical therapy possible. I'm mighty partial to gate photos. So pretty.
That first shot is, indeed, like a triffid, Martin. Alas, it's only a clematis seed head.
I traversed the small, relatively flat area behind our house -- anywhere else is sloping/steep and the knee and I aren't quite ready. Also, it's right chilly out.
Continuing to do my stair exercises...
And truly hope to stop talking about my blasted knee and get on to topics of more general interest now. You all have been so nice and encouraging; I really appreciate every one of you.
Glad you're back into the yard. Love all of your gate photos; there's something so Eastern about the look of the gate. It captures my attention in every photo as the differences in weather, lighting, wind, time of day, etc. change the look and feel of it.

I am catching up with old posts after a blogging break. Sometimes I just need to get away from the computer entirely, you know? Well, not entirely, I still have to work. But I go through these phases where I don't want to see one on my off hours. Anyhow, glad your knee surgery went well and that you are well on the road to recovery!
