Japonaiserie is the term used by Van Gogh to express the influence of Japanese art (particularly the cheap colour wood-block prints called ukiyo-e prints.)
So when I attempt a haiku and try to make photos that are reminiscent of Japanese prints, I guess I too am guilty of Japonaiserie

"japonaiserie" is a French word used by les Goncourt: it was very fashionnable to collect japanese things (furniture, pictures, fans and so on ) d in the 19 Th Century ;
Sometimes they say "japoniaiserie"to criticize this fashion (niaiserie=sillyness)

I love these effects! The second and the last are my favorites. And great poems! Brought back memories of Van Gogh's work using Japanese prints, especially "Pere Tanguy." I was googling around and came across a blog post that shows work from a Japanese artist who was making prints of Van Gogh paintings! Absolutely lovely. THanks, I think of Japanese beauty in so many aspects of life...just as I enjoyed my birthday dinner in a Japanese restaurant (American style) and took pics in the garden (to be posted eventually).

What a perfect day to see this. My friend Walter passed away yesterday after a long battle with leukemia. Though it wasn't unexpected, when I got the call today, I was stunned. He and his wife Janell were married for 55 years. Walter was a writer and had been self-publishing tons of work for a while now, saying he didn't know how much time he had and he wanted to get as much of it out there as he could. Among his work were several books of haiku. He loved that form and could invoke such wonderful pictures with those few words. I will never look at a haiku without thinking of Walter.
