There's no definitive answer yet but many scientists feel that birds are directly descended from dinosaurs . . .
These teenage birds -- destined not for the freezer but for our laying flock --
have a real velociraptor look to them, in my opinion . . .
It's easier to see in a big bird like an emu or an ostrich but even these barnyard biddies have a certain pitiless T-rex glare . . . just as well they aren't bigger. . .

I agree and so do baby barn owls! I sure do love chicken, but I'm so glad I don't have to kill it, to eat it, or I'd starve. I eat a lot of chicken!
I think that scientists will come to a definite conclusion that the birds we know today are, indeed, directly descended from dinosaurs. I've noticed in some of the photos I've taken of birds that even darling little Chickadees, my favorite bird, can have a very fierce look about them.
Now, see what you've started. Be very careful when collecting those eggs!
Our 20 chicks confirm your thoughts. They have grown so quickly and you should see what they can do to a cantelope carcass-gone in a flash! We have Brahma's and Buff Orpington's and they promise to be beautiful full grown. Only 5 hens and one rooster plan to become permanent family members- the rest are destined for the table.

Not in the same class, but we have a crazy titmouse who keeps attacking the house windows. Guessing he thinks he's at least the size of a velociraptor.
Chickens are quite carnivorous -- you should see them attacking the remnants of the Thanksgiving turkey. I once saw a hen catch and eat a small mouse -- ruthless!
I agree totally...but what's wrong with that anyway? Feathers or scales or skin...or hair? I'm just glad they are small and we are big at this season.
I will look at Casey, my cockatiel, in a totally different way....

Oh yes...I can definitely see that which is why I've always been just a little leery of chickens and grateful for their small size. :-)
