Gardening? Really?

The last day of January and the temperature was nearly 70. I had to get out and pull a weed or two. And Willa was moved to do a little excavating.
That handy hole reminded me I'd been meaning to transplant some daffodils. I know you're supposed to do this is the Fall but I always forget exactly where the big crowded clumps are once the foliage has died.
These are in bad need of thinning -- they don't have buds but maybe next year, once they're not so crowded. So I'll separate them and plant them back -- a little deeper and with lots of room.
Dogs have often influenced my gardening --  I may put a thorny bush here to prevent dogs making a path or a big rock there to discourage lounging in the soft dirt of the flower bed.
So weird, to have weather like this.  It's pleasant, of course, but the potential for snow remains.  Still, it feels good to have dirt under my fingernails again.

It's so restoring for ones soul to be able to garden on a pleasant winters day. Loved seeing Willa enjoying her digging. She's looking so healthy!

I wish I liked having dirt under my nails.

Those temperatures are welcome, but a blip all the same. We're promised some of the white stuff for this weekend.

i agree ... I've been taking advantage of our weather by trying to do some outside work, although there really isn't that much to do, but being outside is quite enjoyable.

I just can't believe how warm it has been. It has been nice, but all of my plants are confused. I am already seeing the tops of my garlic and daffodils. This time last year we had snow up to my knees. I like this warm winter, but I also do miss the snow.

WArm here too, and the daffodils are starting up. I didn't realize it wasn't too late to thin out the crowds and plant some else where. Thank you.

I'm enjoying every minute of it. And I have the dust in the house to prove it.

I do fear for the apple crop. If it doesn't get back to normal the trees will bud too soon.

Been in the 60's here in IN and hoping a freeze won't zap the trees...They must be terribly confused. I did enjoy your pictures. I guess I'm missing "winter." Not used to this balmy weather. Have a wonderful day! Cathy

Sixties in MO... strange weather for sure! My daffodiles need thinning too. Wish I loved getting dirt under my fingernails as much as you do!

Looks like a wonderful Spring day. How confusing, though how pleasant too.

These images evoke promises of spring, kept ones!
Here, the grounds are frozen, in fact, whole lakes are frozen and folks are able to ice skate for miles across them.

Late this afternoon I literally ran home to get out of the biting cold. Minus10°Celsius, windchill doubles that. Horribly cold.
