Phil, from a car dealership in L.A. (L.A.!) sent me the following yesterday:
Hi, I'd like to inquire about doing a sponsored blog post - about 150-300 words that talks a little bit about cars and automobiles and links back to our site. We are a car dealership and thought we might be a good fit for your readers/visitors on http://vickilanemysteries.blogspot.com. Here's a list of some blog post titles we've done in the past: - What To Look For When Buying A New Car - 2012 Cars That Look Good And Saves You Gas - Reasons Why Buying New Cars Is Better Than Used Our budget is around $15 for the post. Is this something you'd be open to? Also we might be interested in a small banner ad if the price is right. Our budget is $40/year. Let me know if you'd be open to either or both of these.
Now I just wonder what made Phil think that we might be a good fit. Do I have ANY readers in the LA area? Not that I know of.
And what, in his no doubt careful perusal of my blog, made him think I had any expertise or interest in writing about cars?
And for the princely sum of $15 -- dang! I'm not saying I couldn't be bought but for $15? Give me a break.
I told Phil that I'd no more take him up on his offer than I'd tattoo his ad on the face of my firstborn.

Yikes. Methinks Phil and his employer need an intense round of basic social media training. Or two or three, maybe.
Obviously Phil doesn't check out blogs, before asking, although I do recall an awesome car you posted!
Thank goodness you couldn't be bought... at least not cheap! LOL!
hehe i get these every once in a while...some really make me chuckle...have yet to bite on one though....
I've been getting a few of these just recently. DELETE.
I get them too. At least your's wasn't for something x-rated. We are north of you but some of our trees are blooming too. Spring is in the air, but in February? I hope this won't be a problem.
LOL! That's pretty funny. Well, at least it was cars. I can think of worse!
Sounds like a computer did the picking for Phil, and that he didn't even take the time it look further into it. I did get a good laugh over this post though. Guess as a blogger you never know what's going to come your way!
Some people just have no idea!!!!!!
That's really funny! I'm happy to say I've never gotten anything like that. Connection? L.A. are the first two letters of Lane...
Harsh, Vicki, harsh. Not a good fit? Well, you DO RIDE in cars, don't you?
:)
Haw haw hawing over here, can't you hear me from there! You have just the right spin on spam!
Brings to mind an old joke attributed to Winston Churchill and Lady Astor. Must have been a successful auto dealer to manage such an extravagant advertising budget.
Vicki Van V -- I should have referred him to you...
I get lots of spam, x -rated and otherwise in the comments, most of which get caught and I delete them.
Yes, Stranger -- we're just arguing about the price.... ;-)
Phil might be a computer, not a person. Reading this post did make me laugh.
I think that your students are very fortunate to be able to avail themselves of your multiple talents and great sensitivity...and humor.
Just this afternoon, I checked out Ms. Crombie's No Mark Upon Her from my truly marvelous subscription libary (www.nysoclib.org)
Do you know this grand temple to readers?
Something new to look out for on the web.
Do you think he'd give you that princely sum for a short blog like: I ride in cars. I own a car.
Good for you Vicki. I get some goof ball requests too. I just want to know where they get the nerve? It's also sooo obvious they don't read...
Sam
Hehehe! Weird, but at least it gave everyone a good laugh.
