A Perfect Comfort Read

A lovely book, as comforting as a comfy chair and a really hot cup of tea. I was captured on the first page and, apart from picking up Josie and grocery shopping in advance of the predicted storm, I was engrossed in a compelling story with just enough obstacles and difficulties to keep one reading and cheering for a good outcome.

Major Pettigrew is the sort of man the world needs and his story is a welcome escape from the headlines. It's like a warm hug.

I'm reading the new biography of Bennett Cerf. Very long and totally engaging.

I read that some time ago and marveled at its story. She has written other books which are just as good.

Oh joy, oh rapture! Turns out I already own this book, although I've not read it yet. I've just downloaded it from storage. That'll be my next read, then. Thanks, Vicki!

My present reading is in my Kindle edition of The Complete Raffles Collection by E. W. Hornung. These stories are in many respects similar to those of Hornung's brother-in-law, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with this exception: A.J. Raffles and his companion Harry "Bunny" Manders, although obviously inspired by Holmes and Watson, are criminals -- gentleman burglars who target the upper classes. (Sort of begs for a crossover story, doesn't it?) Hornung also based Raffles and Bunny in part on his friends Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred "Bosie" Douglas.

Ooh, I was aware of Raffles the gentleman burglar but haven't read any. That will change. And thanks to Marcia, I'll look into Simondson's other books!
