A Simple Curl of Smoke . . .

It was the particular questioning  curl of the smoke that caught my eye as I came around the curve and I grabbed a quick picture from the car window.

The resulting picture didn't please me so I fiddled with it. To me, the image that emerged looks like an illustration for a fairy tale of some sort.

But one good illustration needs another so I fiddled with some more mediocre pictures I'd taken. (Note: when I'm in the car in bright sunlight, I usually wear sunglasses with a violet tint and they make everything look more intriguing than it actually is. Mid day is not a great time to take pictures.)

So here I have the illustrations but no story as yet. . .

Who lives in the little house?  Is the creek the way to approach the house? Or is it an escape route?

I don't think this is a Miss Birdie story. . .

Any ideas?

I don't mind the original photo, but I can see why you'd want to massage it a little -- or a lot in this case.

I like the original photo very much. The results of your massage are intriguing too.

Lovely to find smoke coming from the chimney...definitely inviting thoughts of something happening in the house...a special day?

Oh yes, Vicki, those scenes could easily summon up a story or two. Either something involving curious (or lost) children, or perhaps a tale of a special delivery package/envelope that requires proof of delivery...and how that delivery draws the delivery man/woman into a drama. More ideas also occur to me.

The river where they played as children. As teenagers, they courted during canoe rides. They were married on the banks of this river and he taught their children to swim in its waters. The smoke is from the coal stove, warming the house as she awaits the mourners, coming for his wake. The river brought the typhoid that took him from her and his ashes will become one with the river and take him away.

Great ideas! And Gwens is perfect Flash Fiction!

I like both photos but…hey…in the second one where you fiddled…do you see that immense shadow in the sky that appears to be a hawk?!?!? Whoa…very cool…am I the only one to see it?

It looked like a pterodactyl to me...

There's a shadow of a huge bird of prey over the house. Looks like something from Mordor. It will land on the roof, peck a hole and look around for a tasty treat

I'm on Bloglovin', but when I read on there I am unable to leave a comment. Strange!
I love this picture and prefer the original, sorry. Lots of ideas for stories aren't there. I always love a mystery so... Who lives there?band why there and not in a town or city? Now the person... Have they had a troublesome past which made them crave for solitude? Or perhaps they've always lived there but long to leave but cannot sell!
Maybe the person who lives there is from another world?
