And Then It Was Easter . . .

After two days of wedding doings, it was time for our annual Easter party -- a tradition since 1979.  The rain that had so kindly held off during the wedding returned and rattled on the roof all night long. But luck was with us (again!) and by morning the rain was gone. We began the day, though, with an intimate little egg hunt for two visiting nephews . . .

Jack and Asher, getting in some practice before the big hunt later in the day.

I suddenly remembered I hadn't yet made the golden eggs for the big hunt...

After tidying up from the day before, we were ready for celebration number three.

The party got under way at one -- we had rehung the quilt for all to see.

As always, kids had a great time exploring . . .

The branch is a magnet for young uns --  sometimes even rubber boots get full of water . . .

Mud pies were popular with this crowd . . .

Meanwhile, grown ups (the Easter Rabbit's minions) worked hard to hide the eggs . . .

And this little person tried to understand the new game . . .

While these three hunters ventured farther afield . . .

Eggs, eggs, everywhere . . .

And the occasional meltdown . . .

The egg hunts ended and the adults partied on . . . .

But in the end, it was all about the kids.

What fun! The colors in these photos is so wonderful - all those jackets and boots and eggs! You will be ready or a rest - enjoy!

How wonderful! I love the eggs. Are the golden ones spray-painted or what? I'm about to do a post about our treasure hunt - not based on eggs because it's autumn here, but still with a surprise at the end.

I love how so many came prepared with rain boots! I would not love to be doing the laundry after those kids got muddy.

In the end, isn't it always about the kids, Vicki? It's great to see them having such fun.

By the way, Asher was the name of my grandfather, and his grandfather, too.

The fun never stops!
The "meltdown" photo and the one following made me stop and look at every detail. I don't know, off the top of my head, why I liked those so much but I sure do!

After some clean up today, I will, indeed, be ready for a rest!

Katy - I loved how the color inside the bucket matched the stripes in his shirt.

Juliet -- the golden eggs are spray-painted -- such fun stuff. I could let myself get a bit out of hand -- leaves, rocks, dogs . . .

Ms. A - I did a late load of laundry last night so Asher would have clean, dry clothes to travel in today. Every stitch he'd brought was wet and muddy.

I thought I remembered that, Martin. Such a nice, strong name.

June, I loved the meltdown photo -- the curly red hair on mother and son.

Wonderful Easter egg hunt!
Rain is supposed to be very good luck on a wedding day.

Oh, how much fun those children must have had. I am thinking about how many happy memories were created round your place over that very happy weekend.

I am surprised at the number of kids there. It must have been so much fun for them and for the adults to watch them!

Sigh....why do I always think you get all the fun? (April Fool!)

Back in the day my kids and I had a golden egg, too. But we also had the Sid Vicious Memorial Egg, which the finder got to throw against a wall, and someone else had to clean it up! My kids have always had the best senses of humor!

Wonderful time was had by all, as ever. I always enjoy your Easter egg hunts! Quilts up, gorgeous food, lots of company, music and food. You have the perfect venue too.

Deana -- what I want to know is was the Sid Vicious egg hard boiled or raw? And was the throwing done inside or out?

Are the golded eggs a tradition?
