End of July Harvest

There are showers and rainbows in the distance but the rain eludes us.

It's a busy time here -- out of town company, 30 chickens to butcher for the freezer. . .

And the raccoons are getting into the corn.
So --pick the corn and get it into the freezer with the chickens.

Blight has hit the tomatoes (as it always does, sooner or later) and I spent a hot morning removing all the affected leaves from the vines in hopes of slowing the spread of the disease.

And the day ended with another rainbow --  no shower but a lovely cooling breeze.

Thanks for sharing your day with its ups and downs and ending in the rainbow of promise! Your weather looks a bit like ours!

Look at those rainbows!

I love chicken, but I'm glad I don't have to kill it and clean it... I'd starve.

Hope you get some rain, soon.

So busy!
Adding good company to work does not hurt at all.

I wouldn't make it as a farmer, either. When we lived on a boat, we didn't even fish....

With all the rain, and quickly passing storms we've had this summer, I have yet to be outdoors in the right place at the right time to see a rainbow. Thank you so much for sharing yours!

I do love your garden photos, but don't think I could manage the "chicken harvesting."

Yep, summertime is definitely a busy time for all those that garden. Heck, just keeping up with the weeding is difficult enough!

Sorry you missed the rain, but,hey...a day with rainbows ain't bad! We were ecstatic to get rain last night down here a little south of you...it was so, so dry.

Sorry about the tomatoes. We have no rainbows here...it doesn't stop raining long enough. Hope we can send some of it your way.

You seem to be disputing the song about summertime and the living is easy. Glad part of it is a fun busy.

Well, we all have to eat; I'm bit squeamish when it comes to killing my own food, though. Ridiculous, I know.

Are you self-sufficient on the farm?

Vicki Lane said...

Self-sufficient? I suppose we could be if times were hard enough. But we really like things we can't or don't produce --wine, coffee, olive oil, mangoes, lemons, limes spring to mind.

You've been hard at work, while I've been lazing around all weekend. I'm guessing the feather plucking machine was in full swing?

I dreamed of having our local farmer friend bag me up several gunny sacks of corn for freezing... but it doesn't appear he'll have any to sell this year. Beautiful rainbows.
