Blog Friends

You know what's been really, really nice about visiting bookstores to do presentations for my latest publication? Meeting blog friends -- folks who read this blog and/or whose blogs I visit. Of course, I always meet nice folks -- book lovers, by definition, are nice folks. But what fun to meet people that I already feel like I know!

Tracy, who comments here often, showed up at Fountainhead Books in Waynesville; Carole of  Writer's Porch, surprised me at City Lights in Sylva;  Terry, whose great, great grandfather Benjamin Franklin Freeman I've written about was at Accent on Books, as was fellow dog lover Brenda, of A Scratch Behind the Ears.
Jim, aka Wayfarin' Stranger, was at Malaprops, en route home to Tennessee, and Nancy, who has so generously shared her aunts Inez and Odessa with me was there too.

And yesterday at Blue Ridge Books, as I started in on my book talk, I kept noticing a pretty, smiling young woman who was noticeably pregnant and somehow familiar but I couldn't make a connection (I'm appalling bad at recognizing people -- ask my family.) During the question and answer period, I found out that, lo and behold, it was  Nicole of Rare Bird.

Nicole is in the middle of a high-risk pregnancy -- her little girl was very premature --two pounds -- so Nicole is on bed rest -- only allowed up four hours a day.

And she came to see me -- I am so honored and so touched...
Writing hasn't made me rich in money -- but it's enriched my life with experiences and friends like these -- and like you . . .  I treasure you all.

One day, Vicki, I may surprise you and turn up at one these venues. In the meantime, it's nice to drop in each day, where the hostess is so welcoming.

Oh, Vicki! This lovely post has given me those delicious goosebumps...I'm so happy for you and it's clear your blog followers hold you in high esteem, for so many of them to have made the effort to visit, even when one of them is so heavily pregnant and in a high risk state. It speaks volumes about how everyone feels about you! What a super post thanking and acknowledging them all so nicely.

The old adage holds true. To have a friend be a friend. You are a generous blog friend, so it is no surprise that any of us would delight in meeting you in person. Let alone reading your work.

Hi Vicki. I haven't posted for so long, but I am honored to be one of your blog friends. School has been intense this year, as I have four preps, and two new classes. I am going to try to read blog entries more often. I'm glad we have you as a writer.

Blogging has given me the support that I needed when I was sad few months back. It has given me good online friends. Put back confidence. And one of those is you Miss Vicki. Such a wonderful lady to give me good comments on my very simple posts.

I would be happy if I can meet you also.

Have a great week ahead ma'am!

And we treasure you, Vicki. I've met a few of my blog friends and can't wait to meet more. What a treat it would be to be able to show up at one of your book signings!

Your stories, musings, recipes, and of course, outstanding photos, enrich my life as well. Thank you. By the way, just curious - when traveling about on your daily jaunts - do you factor in "stop and take pictures by the roadside" time or does your wild side come out and do you put pedal to the metal and dodge the county mounties to make up lost time?!

How delightful for you! Warmest wishes that writing continues to bring you such friendly blessings.

Such kind words from all of you! And Gwen -- living where I do, I always factor in extra time for going any where. And so, if I see a potential picture, I have time to stop -- usually.

But I never take very long to take pictures, relying instead on taking many quickly and cropping and/or fiddling with them later using PICASA editing tools.

Oh, it was a JOY to come and relax and hear you read and share from your work. I am thankful that "community" takes many shapes--even virtual! Thank you for being so encouraging!

I had hoped to meet you at City Lights, but we had an invitation to be in Knoxville to see my husband's 94 year old aunt and two of his cousins. Had a wonderful visit and also visited the churchyard cemetery where his grand-, great-, and great-great grandparents are buried. So here's hoping to catch you at an event after the next book. I so enjoy both your books and your blog and those who comment.

Vicki, I completely agree that having a community of friends, physical or virtual, is true wealth. By the way, I was surprised to see all the "hits" on my blog today, and then I read yours. Thanks for the mention. Jim
