From the Farm

The iris continue to be a delight --  flashy two-tone bearded beauties...

And this shy blue-eyed grass -- a tiny wild iris.

Yesterday, I planted 48 Roma tomatoes, in spite of the fact that our traditional 'safe' date is May 15.

Was this an act of daring? Optimism? Hubris?  Time will tell...
The Jersey girls seem to have decided that they're a herd of two. They are both such pets.

Silverbell, in spite of being the new girl in town, has explained to Marigold that age and size are what matter.
And, of course, beauty ...

 Marigold is not impressed....

Cows are such soft hearted creatures. They are not respected enough in my country. There are farmers who keep their cows in the stables all year long. After a long winter of being confined in the byre, they are overjoyed to be back in the meadow and start jumping and running around from happiness.
Your photos are wonderful!

Interesting fact that blue-eyed grass is a wild iris....
When I see the pictures of your garden and farm animals, knowing the fact that you spend a lot of time writing and talking about writing, I wonder that you still have time to read!

Beautiful iris, beautiful cows. Lucky you! I never knew blue-eyed grass was an iris! And I do think you are brave for the early planting of tomatoes. We usually wait until May 15th or so as well, but with all the rain we have been getting, we may not even get them in then.

Ooops! Freeze warning for tonight here too. I'll be putting hay around the maters and covering them as well. And the basil. Yikes!

Hope the frost doesn't catch you tonight, Vicki! I have to confess: since our Marigold has dried up, I've gotten a LOT done! Yes, we hunger for that glorious milk, but I'm "free at last!" :-))

Spring cleaning was never so thorough!

Lovely farm!

You've been a busy girl Vicki! I love those beautiful Jersey cows; wish I could have one or two! We got up to a rather chilly morning here in Florida and hard winds to boot. Have a great day!

The cows are lovely. I'm so glad they've got each other. It's nice to see a pair of them.

I see you're busy with the tomatoes again. Do you sell them? I'm sure you can't eat all that many yourselves, can you?

Glad 'the girls' have worked it all out. They look very content with their new herd. It should be quite the interesting experiment when it comes to cheese making time. Allot of folks seem to be doing quite well at making their own these days. There is a sheep dairy near here, and I keep planning to visit but haven't yet. The cheese is wonderful though, as they sell at area craft shows. Oh and the Smudge! (Sheep Cheese Fudge.) It's heavenly. I planted a bunch of tomatoes and other veggies in my pot garden, and it's gotten quite cold here --down to the upper thirties, but I'm hoping it doesn't frost. Good luck with yours!

They are very appealing cows - and I love those irises. Hope your hard work survives the frost.

They are lovely meadow ladies and are hopefully getting ready to give you lots of clotted cream. Your irises and the blue grass are stunningly beautiful hues of blue.

Aw, I love your cows. They have such sweet faces. Sadly our iris are about gone. It's going down into the 30's tonight here. Not sure if this is still spring or if we've moved into late fall already.
