Black willow reaches,
Longing for the winter sun
And its cold pale fire.
And its cold pale fire.
Time and water freeze;
Stillness lies upon the land,
Slow, the great wheel turns...
... and in French, courtesy Miss Yves ...
Noir, se tend le saule
Vers le soleil hivernal
Son feu froid et pâle.
Le temps et l'eau gèlent
Le calme s'étend sur terre
Lente, la roue tourne.

Lovely photos and words Vicki. Solstice blessings! XO
Perfectly said, perfectly matched
There is a Full Moon and also a full Lunar Eclipse on the Solstice this year! For Eastern time zone, partial eclipse on Dec 21, 1:33AM, full eclipse at 2:41. Hoping for clear skies here in Cosby.

You have such a skill - your word pictures and real pictures are so evocative.
So pretty Vicki.
Great winter pictures.
That´s beautiful! And soon the days will get longer again.
You really have a knack for putting words and pictures together Vicki.
Stay warm,
Sam
there is some comfort on days when the wheel slows down...nice pics...
Slow, the great wheel turns...
Love that line.
Such pretty photos Vicki. Happy solstice to you!

Awesome picture of the frozen river !
Love the strong silent winter. You've captured that time to pace down into calm.

Vicki, you take such awesome pics!
Your words added make for a delightful read! We'll head to the mountain house Tuesday but may have to visit you or Kat to see snow! :) We do have a chance for flurries on Thursday though, keeping my fingers crossed!! XOXO
The photo's and the words here make me feel the cold of winter all around my soul.
I glanced out my window while reading your post and saw a large doe between my oak trees which are bare to the bone of any foliage.
We have a lots of small acorns on the front lawn and the deer and blue jays seem to be loving it like a "Golden Corral" buffet.
Sigh, so beautiful, and chilly. Beautiful poem and pictures.
Lovely. The countryside around your home is perfect for the winter solstice. Clever pictures.
Blessings, Star
Love the first photo matching perfectly the words.
I see, objectively, that those images are beautiful, but, for me, the bleakness overwhelms their beauty.
Well composed, nonetheless. :-]
Solstice, Full Moon, and Eclipse all at one time! Magical! Here's hoping for clear skies -- and that I can stay awake...
Thanks you, Miss Yves, for the translation!
Yes, it's a bleak world out there much of the time just now -- I fine it good practice looking for the beauty or, at least, the interesting forms.
Oh I loved your haiku
How I wait for longer days..soon soon
Perfectly captures the beauty and stillness of winter!
This time of year is magical, the fleetingness of it all only enhances it.
Lovely photos and tender words, Vicki
Your pictures took my breath away. Beautiful words to go with them.--Inger
I can feel the slow turning of the wheel, through this post. Very nice, Vicki.
What a beautiful poem and great translation, Vicki!
Beautiful – everything – the words, the pictures. C’est très beau!
