Afer a night of heavy rain we awoke to snow yesterday. By afternoon the decks had seen heavy traffic from the birds.
And much of the light snow had melted. But to the east, the distant Blue Ridge was still frosted and shone pink in the setting sun.
Our north-facing slopes get little sun at this time of year and they too still wore a drift of snow.

I love how you have given us these vistas during each season. I look for the differences in these photos and seem to familiar sights each time!
Our first measurable snow came mid morning today in Rochester. The long freeze begins yet again!

Oh yes. it is definitely winter in the northern hemisphere! Lovely photos.. very cooling on a humid warm day here in NZ!
I don't understand global warming!!!!
How pretty it looks with the snow but we are still waiting for our summer to arrive!
I guess this is just a taste of things to come, Vicki. We woke up to around 8 inches of snowfall this morning. As ever, the country has ground to a standstill.
Much the same here Vicki, as you know but it is sooooooooo beautiful, I just can't be cross with it. I feel so sorry for all the commuters over here trying to get to work in all this. The new modern!! trains can't cope like the old steam engines of years ago. I have to go out later. I hope the buses are running.
Blessings, Star
oy wish we had snow...even a skiff would be perfect...just to lighten the day...lovely pics...
Beautiful pictures, as always.
We had snow here too, but some ice underneath, so it made for some tricky driving/walking.
Did you go barefoot in the snow?
We had a dusting yesterday, too. It quickly melted, but winter's on the way!! Thanks for lovely photos, Vicki! Also for the lesson on book titles!

We had a little dusting of snow yesterday and a little this morning. It is really cold. We are supposed to have accumulation tomorrow night!
Ahhh, the joys of higher altitude living! I used to live on top of a mountain down Hwy 9. But I was so paranoid about driving on those steep snowy mountain roads I had to become a lowlander!:) My favorite thing about the snow is that it brings all the birds out. Last winter, with all that snow, was a bird bonanza!!
Okay, okay. Got to pick a favorite photo. Hmmm. Beautiful or beautiful and makes me laugh.
LAugh! I love the 'traffic' photo.

The clouds above your north facing slopes look like extended ranges of snow. I don't care much for snow, but I do believe I would never leave those mountains.
We got about the same amount overnight, as well. I love the way it changes the landscape and puts me in a winter frame of mind. Lovely photos.
The first photo seems an abract painting!
Yes , you guessed what is reality is under the illusion!
Thank you for your participation
I love the idea that the ghost of Cachou is playing tricks to my (and my husband who saw the same thing!)
what reality is under
We only had a little ice-but I think old man winter has for sure arrived in wnc.
I love the snow picture! Being from eastern North Carolina I don't get to see much snow. I guess that's why I love it so.
I've had snowfall for exactly one week. I haven't driven my car since friday. Everyone has a different story of hardship when I meet with my workmates every morning !
It looks a little chilly there, but very attractive, especially over those distant hills.
Ahhhhhh, crisp and lovely stuff!
Dear Vicki: Thanks for visiting. And great thanks for such beautiful views, winter seems so far away right now down here. I love this communication from farm to farm we have!
Old man winter has arrived for sure. I read on another blog that Brevard got ten inches of rain. That's a lot of rain.

Very beautiful photos as always Vicki. You live in a wonderful part of the world - I love this peek of your world in winter.
I love seeing your pictures. We have only had a flurry or two nothing stuck around, it melts before it hit the ground.
I want you to know that I appreciated your post about your latest book in gallery form and making corrections. That helped me so much. Thank you.
Gorgeous photos, as always!
We might get a dusting tomorrow! Love your pictures!!
