Miss Birdie Flies the Coop
I feel like putting on a fancy hat and singing -- Miss Birdie is in New York in the capable hands of Herself, my redoubtable editor!!!!
I spent all day, checking over the pages, removing typos , fixing this and that, and correcting formattting and at 5:30, through the miracle of email, Miss Birdie flew from my messy workroom to Herself -- and I got a confirming email to say that she was there!
It seems like time for a celebratory adult beverage.

I do love Miss Birdie and I'm happy there will be a new book one of these days!
Miss Birdie flew the coop.........
Miss Birdie flew the coop........
She left the mountains
for New York.........
To become a bestseller book.....
Now can I say congrats to the new Mommy, Vicki Lane?
One of these days, indeed, Auntie Knickers! This has gone on far too long.
And,Carol -- from your mouth to God's ears . . .
Now we'll wait for Herself's reaction.
She could think that this baby sucks . . . and I need to start over or do some major revising -- this is always a possibility.
Vicki - Hush your mouth with that kinda talk, girl!!!!
Herself is gonna love it!
We're keepin' the faith, crossing our fingers, and hoping to see this one soonest.
Miss Birdie is on her way
to her great publication day.
So many of us have waited
with breath much bated.
Now we look forward to learning
the true path of this new journey,
and knowing the work you put in
we know it was worth it in the end.
OK, it's not the best poetry in the world, but that's what ya' get in about 3 minutes writing time. You get the gist anyway. Looking forward to the new book. Now get some rest. You deserve it.
"... where never was heard,
a discouraging word . . ."
Thanks, Kaye and Susan!
Rest? Not as such . . . going to tackle the ironing and then attempt to put my workroom back in order -- a perfect task for this rainy day.
Whew...(wipes brow), I'm so happy for you (and us)Vicki. As I was telling Pat, I've never been 'involved' in the conception, gestation, labor (and soon I hope) delivery of a book before, and it's been amazing. My how I take it for granted the work and love that went into it as I breeze through those pages, reading as hard as I can. Thanks for sharing the journey!
Tammy
Hope when you proofed you left in alot of adverbs!
When will it be in the stores?
Caryn
As I've said before, Tammy, it's like that big Thanksgiving dinner that takes days in the kitchen to prepare and is gobbled up in minutes. Only worse.
Caryn, I did, indeed, willfully and joyfully and knowingly, leave in adverbs!
When in the stores? At the moment I have no idea. Much will depend on how Herself reacts to it -- whether she suggests a total rewrite or just minor tweaking. I presume Herself already has scheduled it -- but until I hear her reaction to the ms., I haven't the temerity to ask.
You all on the blog will be the first to know -- as soon as I know.
Oh, Vicki, I'm so excited about the book and look forward to getting to read all about Miss Birdie! And especialy any reference to my Aunt Odessa and Aunt Inez! I know the book is going to be fabulous....I'm sending positive thoughts all the way to "Herself" that the book will be just fine the way it is.
Rock on, Mama, rock on!
Vicki, I am so happy for you, yet selfish enough to admit that I am thrilled for the rest of us! This book can't come out too soon!! I have been in awe of the entire journey and thank you for sharing .. now take a well deserved rest, even if it is getting your every day life back in order.
Thanks, Nancy, Byron, and Pat! It's been fun having all of you along on the journey -- all the constant commenters are my books doulas. (I hope that's the correct spelling.)
Vicki, I'm so pleased! For you, your labors eased, and for US who benefit from those creative labors! Sounds like the ironing, etc will provide a physical way of debriefing!
Good thing, too. I'm savoring the last of In a Dark Season with the same feeling I get when I'm down to the last cookie in the box. So much pleasure. So much remorse for devouring them too fast. So much anticipation for the next batch.
Hope Herself gets a move on. Enjoy the well-earned break.
Susan T, yes, the ironing was therapeutic -- and bringing a bit of order to my workroom has been Wonderful!
Marta, I'm really looking forward to our next spell of spring-like weather to do some of the undone garden cleanup. Recently, it's been a choice of mud or ice outside.
And I've been rationing out the essays in the HORTUS anthology like cookies. Such very good writing, all of it! I'll do a post when I finish.
