In Atlanta in 1960, rather than serve African-Americans, department stores closed their lunch counters and tried to hide them with barricades of Christmas wreathes.
I saw it and was ashamed.
Last night, there were joyous crowds in Chicago; there were tears of joy on the many-hued faces; there was bright hope in the eyes of young and old.
I saw it and was proud.
We've come a long, long way. And together we'll go farther.
Yes, we can.

Yes! Together is the key! For the first day in a long time I am feeling some hope for the future of our country.
I am so proud of this country right now. Just look at the numbers and you can see how far we've come. I am with karenb...I have a lot of hope for our future.
I am so proud of our country for choosing hope over fear - now the hard work begins.
I haven't stopped smiling all day.
Hi Vicki,
A belated comment on election night....
When I watched President-elect Barack Obama walk out on the stage, I couldn't stop smiling. And when he spoke, I had tears of joy running down my face.
YES WE DID!!!!!!!!!
Still smiling!!!
