Winter Collage

From the icicles at every window that make me feel like a prisoner of the White Witch to the hoar frost on the distant trees, Winter keeps finding new ways to arrange ice crystals.

Our basement windows yesterday were etched with the most beautiful frost patterns . . .

I imagine them as fabric in various colorways -- Rain Forest; Deep Sea; Chiaroscuro; and (Meshach, Shadrach, and Abednego) In the Fiery Furnace.

These days, fun is where you find it.

Frosting

In dreams, one might walk,
Wading through cool whipped cream clouds,
Toward the rising sun.

"Jack Frost has been here,"
My grandmother would tell me,
Pointing to the ground
Where elegant tracery
Picoteed the still green leaves.

Such fleeting beauty ...
Sun-kissed rime to crystal drops ...
Life is short ... yet still ...
