Two more weeks--or longer, maybe much longer-- till we find out if our country is going to stay comparatively sane and prosperous or if it will veer into authoritarian rule for and by the wealthy and the religious right.
The Former Guy--with his rambling, incoherent, vulgar lies is bad enough. A man I wouldn't allow in my house, a man I wouldn't accept a French fry or a roll of paper towels from, a man who is deteriorating in real time--and the race is still close.
But the threat of JD Vance taking over, should this shambling hulk be elected then declared incompetent (a thing that should have already happened, but the GOP is happy to run this clown show as long as the audience is entertained) Vance is the truly scary one. Smarter than the Former Guy, deeply cynical and ambitious, with the soul of a Spanish Inquisitor, Vance and his attachment to Project 2025 would mean a dark future for freedoms in the USA.
And on top of these fears is the sadness I feel, knowing how many people who consider themselves good and kind and moral--who are, in fact, good and kind and moral for the most part--will vote for a ticket that does not reflect their morality, will vote for a man who lies as easily as he breathes'
Jesus wept.

I'm as worried as you - and I don't even live there!
Sad and worried, and furious that our country has come to this.
My dear GOP cousin posted his photo on Facebook today. Just his picture. Glad she didn't comment as to how she is enamored of him, much like one in a cult. She has before. No arguing with her. Sad, very sad. I did enjoy seeing your carwash scenes. Reminds me I need one, but I don't know if our cloudy water would really leave it clean.
James Carville in the NY Times today is very hopeful for Harris. Read his column. I did then I gave more $ to Harris campaign.
Heather Cox Richardson is being reassuring: at worst, she says, we'll get through whatever, and we'll fix it. I think she's being too optimistic -- so much easier to make laws than to repeal them. And the Time of Fixing will come too late for many of us.
Troubling times. Trying to be optimistic but I was optimistic about Hillary's chances.. I did like Carville's article and want to agree with Hather that we'll get through it. But so much damage can be done--not unlike the damage from Helene which I probably won't live to see put right.
