Especially since the European Common Market is far more restrictive of things like genetically-altered corn, etc. I read it, though , as Berry warning us against just the abuses you mention -- sweatshops, etc. Not to mention the questionable products, mainly from China, that have been recalled -- dog food comes to mind.

It's not always cheap or easy to do the right thing. Reminders never hurt as I struggle to do better.Vicki Lanehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08114677510459055768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764237570467034909.post-89439555282953787772010-05-14T12:53:00.811-04:002010-05-14T12:53:00.811-04:00Weeeeeeeell, if you put it like that . . . . . . ...Weeeeeeeell, if you put it like that . . . . . . .Frikohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04277167831642088694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764237570467034909.post-57363358544208225472010-05-14T09:41:45.393-04:002010-05-14T09:41:45.393-04:00We live in a state of denial. Remember the Soviet Union and its satellite states? No free markets, restricted trade, what a paradise it was!

As far as free markets are concerned, nobody forces us to run to the big box stores buying cheap imports made under sweatshop conditions. We are indeed free to chose something produced locally, paying the farmer or the craftsperson what is a living wage. We can also support Fair Trade by buying the goods imported that way. Too expensive? Well, we can't have it both ways.Merisihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16781937797213521146noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-764237570467034909.post-21205787381811276212010-05-14T08:47:40.499-04:002010-05-14T08:47:40.499-04:00Oh, thank you, estaminet!
