Oh, you're so lucky to have healthy, beautiful Irises. After we moved here, I learned from a neighbor, who was struggling to save her iris bed, that iris borers were a big problem in the soil. She gave me several plants to see if I would have better luck with them, but they only lasted one year. My neighbor spoke darkly of "the borer" for years afterward.

In the last house I rented there was an Iris bed very overgrown from years of neglect. I spent hours pulling out bulbs and giving them away. Then after I moved the owner built a room extension over the bed, so the strain of ordinary blue isis lives on in other people’s yards somewhere,
