Across the river, a team of Army workers are tackling the immense job of restoring the park that was the put-in place for rafting companies and other paddlers--groups that brought needed revenue to our county.
The flood uprooted trees, deposited debris, and left a huge gouge in the middle of what had been the parling area. Now many hands are working to restore the park--as they are working all over our devastated region.
I can't help seeing an analogy here--our brutally divided country in need of repair.
Like many, I am sick at heart over the election of this incredibly flawed man and am apprehensive of the future.
I cling to hope. But it's going to take some heavy equipment to heal this divide

I awoke at 4:15 this morning with the weight of it all on my mind. I'll have to try to stay off Twitter today. I got kind of glued to it yesterday, looking for rays of hope.
I feel like apologizing to the world for what my country has become.
The Army will soon be busy rounding up and deporting immigrants. I hope the people of NC who helped elect trump realize that all he wanted was their support at the ballot box, and now that they've elected another Democratic governor trump will have no interest in helping the state for the next 4 years.
Having a North Carolina Democratic governor, and Supervisor of Education as well, are the only silver lining to the cloud of this election. I'm really happy that this happened, or I surely would have been packing my bags (metaphorically) and in a way I feel like that still. So glad to see a park is being restored. I haven't shared any free hot meals for weeks, and that was in hopes someone really needing them would have them. But it also means the helpers will just be going to another disaster to help there. World Central Kitchen was one, but often our more local providers stepped up as well.
YES it is!
Things do get repaired and healed. It's just sad how much longer that rebuilding process takes than the things/people/events that do the damage in the first place, which can happen in a flash.
But the Christmas tree is up and decorated at Biltmore, and the estate is open for business. Some progress is being made, which is a heartening thought.
