Yesterday I visited the compost facility where Justin works, turning garbage from Asheville's finest restaurants into high grade dirt.
It's not pretty and even in twenty degree weather there was a certain odor . . .
But it's a noble endeavor and a good job for a philosophy major.
What had me open-mouthed in awe though were the birds -- masses of them. Black vultures and crows were what I mainly saw, along with some smaller birds.
Justin has seen ravens and the occasional bald eagle at this all-you-can eat buffet for scavengers.
It was too cold to linger but I kept taking pictures . . .

It should be done more over the world...
A five star restaurant for birds: impressive!
This is from 'a' restaurant?
Ooops! I'll fix that.
Excellent avian feast, part of the cycle of life, which our restaurants are jut a clog in the wheel.
I mean a cog...thank you spell check.
A "noble endeavor" indeed -- kudos to Justin!!!!!
Things that matter to mother earth. Our only home amonst all the grains of sand.
Weirdly, reading this gave me a flashback to when our son worked construction and often delivered yard waste to the compost facility. One day he came home pleased because he'd won - I don't know why exactly - a compost facility tshirt with "Because a rind is a terrible thing to waste," printed on the front. Wish I had one to send you for your son!
