He doesn't like having his picture made (neither do I) so I'm making do with one from his college days --I've always loved how happy he looks, in spite of the bougainvillea that seems to be growing out of his ear.
After the scare a while back with the pulmonary embolism, this birthday seems like a time to be extra thankful for my precious older son. He's an amazing guy -- but if I say too much, I'll begin to get corny and he doesn't like that either.

So I'll just say that it's been a joy having the amazing pleasure of Ethan's wit and wisdom and wonder these past thirty-seven years and we look forward to many, many more birthday celebrations.
A sad note is that after years of happily telecommuting to their jobs in Atlanta from their house here on the farm, Ethan and Aileen are having to move back to Atlanta this fall. Their employer, White Wolf Publishing, is making significant alterations in the product line and the bosses want everyone on site to help facilitate the changes.
Bummer, says I. But we've had the great good fortune to have both boys and their partners living here for quite a few years. So when the time comes, we'll wish them well, wave goodbye, and look forward to the next occasion we'll all be together.
I think it's the law they have to come back for Thanksgiving or Christmas . . . and birthdays.

Hi Vicki, A happy birthday to Ethan, how wonderful for you to have had your family close by.Thank you for visiting "Margie's Crafts" and leaving your lovely comment, you are welcome to 'sneak a peek' at Ireland through my blog anytime you can.
My daughter's husband, Chris, is American and they lived in Boston for two years, pity I did not know of that Law then! now they live in England, I must enforce that Law, however now Chris's family may also want to enforce that Law too. Hugs, Margie.
A VERY Happy Birthday to Ethan! I always think I can't love my 2 sons any more then I do and then another year passes and the love deepens and I become that 'corny' mom too when I try and wish them well! HA!
It's hard when they move away. When my oldest moved to Charlotte 6 years ago I had a very heavy heart, but we visit back and forth as often as possible and talk several times a week on the phone. It's not the same as having him nearby, but so it goes ........
Thanks, Margie and Pat! I've been awfully smug these past year with all of them here -- time to suck it up and put up with what most mothers of grown children experience,
I'll be taking quick trips to Ireland via your blog, Margie -- a real armchair traveler, I am!
Hey Vick, I'm with you, this IS a real happy occasion given Ethan's recent illness! Happy Birthday Ethan!!
My son Marty turned 37 on July 6th.
We had babies around the same time:) Of course I already had Todd who was 3 & 1/2 at the time.
Time flies doesn't it.
Don't envy you if you have to drive to Hotlanta to visit! HA!
Happy Birthday, Ethan!!
What a handsome guy.
Thanks, Carol and Willow!
No driving to Atlanta for us. The Law says they have to come home. . . and they prefer it that way.
Hi Vicky, congrats to Ethan who celebrates his special day with my mom. I am happy to be at home with her this year to share the day. She is a whole 68 years young.
Happy Birthday to Ethan.
You are very lucky to have had the company of your family for so long, I suppose, but I'm sad that they are leaving (for a while).
Blessings, Star
Thank you, Robyn and Star! And a happy birthday to your mom,Robyn! I'm just a year and a half behind her.
