A Gentle Rain

After being spoiled with abundant rain for most of July, we've found the past week way too dry. Thunder storms have dodged all around us, giving us a few tantalizing drops to pock the dust and then sweeping off to soak someone else.

But finally, yesterday evening, came a lovely gentle rain! Perfect timing, as I'd spent the morning whacking back the mock orange that was obscuring our view of the fish pool. Now John and I sat on the porch, luxuriating in the cool, damp air, the patter of drops on the metal roof, and the syncopated dance of rain on the once again-visible pond surface.

Miss Susie Hutchins joined us in our blissful appreciation . . . though I think she believed we were admiring her rather than the rain.

Just before night fell we could see in the distance, the after-rain mists rising from all the grateful coves and hollows.

Ours was not a gentle rain, but an intense storm that lasted around 20 minutes, BUT we did get a much needed, and much appreciated, 1/2" of rain. You could just hear a sigh from everything, their way of saying, 'thank yooooou!'.

We got two inches of much needed rain and more is in the forecast!
Yeah!

'Rain, rain, beautiful rain,
Nothing quite like it for cooling the brain . . . '

It's doing it right now, hoorah! My poor wilting pumpkin vines rejoice!

Glad you all got some too!

Sounds beautiful. Nothing like a gentle rain after a stretch of dryness. We've been getting rain at least one or two times week, usually about a 1/4 inch each time. It's hard to realize it's July! It is amazing how quickly though things dry out.

Your Miss Susie Hutchins looks so much like my Pippin!

Nancy and Tammy -- It's been raining off and on all day. Glorious!

Robin -- Pippin's a handsome fella. Those tuxedo kitties are really special, I think. At least that's what Miss Susie Hutchins tells me. Thanks for stopping by!

Sigh. We haven't had any rain here in the So. California mountains, or anywhere else in So. Calif. for that matter, in nearly 4 months.

Couldn't y'all push a little this way, please?

Oops, I forgot to say that I think Miss Susie Hutchins is beautiful!

Victoria -- that sounds pretty dire -- is that normal?

And Miss Susie Hutchins agrees.

No, not at all. I can't remember a year this dry. It's really scary. High Fire Danger enforcements start this week; normally they don't go into effect until October 1st.

Please, keep your fingers crossed for us that we get an early, wet Autumn!

Wonderful photos, breathing the evening air and admiring Miss Susie too! I wished I could join you! This is holiday time, the time that I would go to Australia, but this year my daughter was to come to my place. But she cannot come due to extra work for her partner, so she decided to come next year. I am a bit homesick to Australia now, playing Australian music. Well ... let's not complain..

Victoria -- I'll be willing rain your way.

Reader Wil -- I'll bet that you will find some traveling to do in your beautiful country -- and I look forward to seeing the pictures!
